Corrosion-Resistant Fishing Pliers (2026)

Pliers live in the worst spot on the boat: wet, salty and half the time on the deck. What decides whether a pair lasts is the frame metal, what the jaws and cutters are made of, and whether the cutter can be replaced when braid dulls it. Here are six pliers sorted by those three things.

How we chose: we did not test these pliers. Materials, cutters and accessories come from the Amazon listings and the makers' pages, and each plier was sold by Amazon.com or the brand's own store and in stock on September 29, 2026.

Aluminum, stainless or titanium

Anodized aluminum is the light option. KastKing calls its AlumaStream frame "lightweight, corrosion-resistant 6061 anodized aluminum" and puts 17-4 stainless steel in the jaws, where the plier grips hooks and crimps. The Cuda and Booms pliers follow the same pattern: aluminum frame, harder metal where it bites.

Coated stainless is heavier and stiffer. PENN says its Bull Nose is "designed from corrosion resistant stainless steel and coated in black Nickel Titanium" for "strength, hardness and corrosion resistance." KastKing's own Speed Demon Pro listing claims its polymer-coated 420 stainless pliers are "46% harder than aluminum pliers," a maker comparison worth reading as marketing, not a test we can check.

Solid titanium is the top of the range. GOMEXUS lists its split-ring plier as TC4 (Aerospace Grade 5) titanium, fully CNC machined. There is no coating to wear through, but the cutters are still carbide, and carbide dulls on braid like any other cutter.

Replaceable cutters, and why they matter

Braid dulls cutters faster than anything else on the boat. When an integrated cutter goes, the whole plier goes with it.

Two pliers here answer that. PENN's page says the Bull Nose has "replaceable line cutters," and the listing says they handle "both mono and braided lines." The GOMEXUS titanium plier ships with "2 blunt blades (compatible with sharp blades) and 1 sharp blade," per its listing, so a spare is already in the box.

The Cuda states its tungsten carbide cutters are "integrated," so they stay with the plier. KastKing, Booms and the GOMEXUS Exoskeleton do not say either way; check with the maker before counting on a replacement.

Key point: a plier's corrosion claim is almost always the maker's word. The only test named on these six listings is GOMEXUS's "168 - hour salt spray test" for the Exoskeleton, and it does not name a standard (such as ASTM B117) or say who ran it.

Sheaths, lanyards and where the plier lives

A plier that goes over the side is gone. Five listings here include a lanyard: the Cuda ("sheath and lanyard"), the KastKing (coiled lanyard and aluminum carabiner), the Booms X1 (a steel-wire coiled lanyard and nylon holster) and both GOMEXUS models. PENN's Bull Nose page lists neither.

KastKing's sheath is the one built for a boat. The listing says it is "self-adjusting" with "a suction cup [that] attaches to smooth boat surfaces for quick and easy access," as well as a belt clip.

Rinse them like a reel

Pliers we left out

Van Staal titanium pliers were on Amazon, but only from resellers (Mackerel Tackle and Gritr when we checked), not Amazon.com or a Van Staal store. Piscifun's saltwater pliers were sold by a storefront called WILDPULSE, not in Piscifun's name. Both brands may make good pliers; we could not confirm who ships them. We found no Hatch or Accurate pliers on Amazon.

We found no CPSC recall for PENN, Cuda, KastKing, Booms Fishing or GOMEXUS pliers in our recall tracker. The one hand-tool recall it lists since 2023 is a July 2025 recall of Leatherman multi-tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do fishing pliers count as a dehooking device?

In Florida, yes. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's reef fish gear rules require a dehooking device when fishing for reef fish and say "even a pair of needle nose pliers is considered a de-hooking tool."

Which plier size should I get?

A 7 to 7.5 in plier covers most inshore and nearshore fishing, and every plier here comes in that range. PENN also sells the Bull Nose in 8 in, per its site, and Booms and Cuda sell longer needle-nose models for deep hooks.

Can I cut wire leader with these?

Some. The GOMEXUS offshore straight-nose model says its dual cutters handle "32lb leader wire," and Cuda sells separate wire cutters. The aluminum pliers here list mono, fluorocarbon and braid, not wire.
