Salt air, spray and a wet deck rust hooks inside a tackle box that looked closed. The fixes come in three kinds: a sealed box that keeps water out, a rust inhibitor that protects the metal inside, and a vented box that lets rinse water drain and the tackle dry. Some boxes combine the first two; none should be trusted to do all three.

What IPX7 means on a tackle box
Plano's Waterproof StowAway is the only box here with an IP rating. Plano says the O-ring gasket gives it an IPX7 rating, and its Amazon listing spells that out as submersion in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
That matches the level 7 immersion test in IEC 60529, per Wikipedia's summary of the IP code. A box with that rating can sit in a flooded hatch or go overboard briefly. Flambeau describes its WP4005 as watertight thanks to a silicone gasket and three latches, but publishes no IP code, so there is no test to compare.
A seal works both ways. Close a sealed box over wet lures and the water stays in with them, which is where the rust inhibitors and the drying step come in.
How rust-inhibitor inserts work
Flambeau's dividers use Zerust, a vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI). According to Flambeau's Zerust FAQ, the formula releases a vapor that diffuses through the enclosure and settles on exposed metal as a microscopic corrosion-inhibiting layer, reaching crevices a coating cannot.
The same FAQ sets the limits. The layer stays only as long as there is no significant, continuous exchange of air, ideally less than one air exchange a day, so an open or cracked box loses it. Flambeau rates Zerust for up to five years on clean metal, if you put it to use within three years of receipt.
Two more points from the FAQ matter on a saltwater boat. When wet parts go into a Zerust box, Flambeau says "corrosion can be anticipated." And Zerust "cannot remove corrosion that has already formed"; it only slows it. It is not a substitute for rinsing and drying.
Plano says less. Its EDGE 3600 page describes a Rustrictor rust preventative infused in the base, a Dri-Loc watertight seal and a WaterWick divider with a reusable moisture-wicking packet. Plano does not say how Rustrictor works or how long it lasts.
Rinse, drain, dry, then seal
Plano's Hydro-Flo StowAway page gives the one written rinse routine here: spray off baits and lures through the closed box, then set it aside so the tackle dries "quickly and thoroughly." The holes that let rinse water out are also what make it a poor box for a wet deck.
Put that together with Flambeau's warning about wet parts and a workable routine follows. Rinse lures in a vented box, let them dry completely, then move them into a sealed, inhibitor box for storage. Leave the lid shut so the vapor layer stays put.

Bags: carrying the boxes
A tackle bag carries sealed boxes; it is not one. The KastKing Bait Boss holds up to seven 3600 trays. Its listing describes 420D ripstop with a hydrophobic coating and an inner PVC layer, and a molded bottom that the maker calls waterproof so the bag can sit in standing water. KastKing still calls the bag itself water resistant.
Piscifun's tackle backpacks were sold by a storefront called WILDPULSE rather than Amazon.com or a Piscifun store, so they did not meet our seller rule. Plano's Weekend 3600 bag, sold by Amazon.com, is another option with a molded base the maker describes as waterproof.

Is Zerust safe to handle, or to store near electronics?
Flambeau's Zerust FAQ says test data show Zerust products do not harm electrical and electronic components, and that there are no inhalation or contact risks.
Do I need to keep the Zerust dividers a certain distance from my hooks?
No. Flambeau says almost all Zerust products are active on both sides and "no attention needs to be paid to a possible effective distance" inside a closed box.
Does a sealed box also keep out humidity?
A sealed box stops new moist air from coming in, but it holds in whatever moisture was there when you closed it. That is why Plano adds a moisture-wicking WaterWick packet to its EDGE boxes on top of the Dri-Loc seal.
