Not on the list does not mean safe. This page covers recalls since January 1, 2023that we could match by name to marine, fishing, paddle and sun gear. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check if my sunscreen has been recalled?
Find the brand, product name, SPF, size and lot number (usually crimped into the tube end or printed on the bottom of the can), then search for the brand in the list on this page. FDA recall announcements are at https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts, and every classified drug recall, including sunscreens, is in FDA's Enforcement Report at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/ires/index.cfm. A recall names the exact lots it covers, so compare them with your product before you throw it away.
What should I do if a cooler, dive regulator or other gear I own is recalled?
Stop using it and follow the remedy in the official notice: most CPSC recalls offer a free repair kit, a replacement or a refund from the company, and the notice says how to claim it. For life-support gear such as scuba regulators and buoyancy compensators, do not dive with the recalled unit until the fix is done.
Why are boats, engines and most life jackets not on this list?
Recreational boats, engines and U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are regulated by the Coast Guard, which runs its own recall and defect notification program (https://www.uscgboating.org/). This list covers the CPSC's consumer product recalls and FDA's sunscreen recalls. A children's swim vest or other flotation toy that is not Coast Guard-approved would be a CPSC recall and would appear here.
If a product is not on this list, is it safe?
No. This list covers CPSC and FDA recall notices since January 1, 2023 that we could match by name to gear used on salt water. It leaves out anything we could not classify with confidence, and a product can be unsafe without ever being recalled. Search the CPSC (https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls) and FDA directly for anything you are unsure about.
