Lens material: glass or not
Costa puts the material in the lens name. The G in 580G means glass; the P in 580P means polycarbonate. Costa's Reefton listing calls polycarbonate its "lightest and most durable lens material" option, and its Fantail listing says the 580G glass is 20% thinner and 22% lighter than average.
Oakley's lenses here are Plutonite, which Oakley says gives "impact resistance and 100% UV protection." None of the Oakley listings here offers glass. If you want glass, that decides it for Costa; if impact resistance matters more, Costa's 580P and Oakley's Plutonite are the options each maker pitches for it.
Lens color by water
Both brands sort their fishing lenses by where you fish. Costa's lens technology page describes Blue Mirror as "a cool neutral viewing experience" with a mirror for open water, and its Rincon II listing calls it "best for bright, full-sun situations on the open water and offshore." Costa's Rinconcito listing calls Green Mirror "great for fishing inshore and on flats."
Oakley's listings say Prizm Deep Water polarized lenses "enhance color in bright water conditions, ideal for fishing or boating," and the Lateralis listing describes Prizm Shallow Water as enhancing "color vividness and contrast." Light transmission and glare
Oakley prints numbers Costa's listings don't. Prizm Deep Water polarized lets through 12% of light and Prizm Shallow Water 11%, and Oakley says its HD Polarized lenses block 99% of glare. Costa's listings say its 580 lenses "filter glare" and absorb 100% of UV, without a transmission figure.
A lower percentage means a darker lens, so the Oakley figures let you compare lenses before you buy. With Costa you compare by the lens name instead.
Fit: where Oakley gives more detail
Oakley lists the fit on each listing. The Fuel Cell is a "High-Bridge Fit," which Oakley says suits "a high nose bridge and lower cheekbones," a nose that sits above the pupils. The Holbrook XXL Low Bridge Fit has lenses "cut higher and wider than the global fit version." The Lateralis adds Unobtainium earsocks and nose pads that grip more with sweat.
Costa's Fantail listings give the 59 mm size but no fit type. If sunglasses usually sit on your cheeks, the Oakley Low Bridge Fit is the one listing here that addresses it by name.
