Huk vs Columbia PFG (2026): Sun Shirts Compared

Huk and Columbia's PFG line both sell long-sleeve fishing shirts with a UPF on the label, and each brand has models that don't match its best number. Below are the specs each brand publishes for two shirts apiece; the right one depends on whether you want a hood, a collar or Big and Tall sizes.

How we chose: we did not test these shirts; every figure comes from Huk's and Columbia's listings and product pages, and all four were sold by Amazon.com and in stock on September 29, 2026.

Huk's fabric and fit for the hoodie are from Huk's Pursuit Performance Hoodie page; Columbia's for the Terminal Tackle are from Columbia's product page. The rest is from the Amazon listings.

UPF: same top number, different models

At the top of each range the brands match. Huk's page for the Pursuit Vented Hoodie says "+UPF 50 to block UVA and UVB rays," and the Icon X listing says "+50 UPF materials." Columbia's page for the Terminal Tackle says "Omni-Shade Broad Spectrum UPF 50." UPF 50 and UPF 50+ both fall in the Skin Cancer Foundation's "excellent" band on its sun-protective clothing page.

Below the top, each brand has a lower-rated shirt. Huk sells the Pursuit Vented Long Sleeve crew as a "+30 UPF Fishing Shirt" on Amazon. Columbia lists the Tamiami II at "UPF 40 fabric." The foundation calls UPF 30 to 49 very good protection, so neither is poor, but a shirt from the right brand can still be the lower number.

Columbia's Terminal Tackle page also shows a Skin Cancer Foundation badge. None of the Huk listings here mentions the foundation.

Fabric and vents

Both brands build these shirts from polyester. Huk lists the Pursuit hoodie as 100% polyester with "mesh vented sides," and adds stain release on its listing, which Huk says "resists oily substances from attaching to the garment." Columbia lists the Terminal Tackle as 100% polyester with Omni-Wick, which it says pulls moisture to the fabric's surface to evaporate.

The Tamiami II is Columbia's vented shirt, with a "mesh-lined vented back" per the listing. Neither brand publishes a breathability figure for any of the four, so compare vents by what you can see: a vented back or side panels, or none.

Fit and sizing

Huk lists the Pursuit hoodie as classic fit on its site. Columbia lists the Terminal Tackle as Regular Fit ("universal, easy fit for comfortable range of motion"), gives a 29.0 in center back length, and sells it in Standard, Big and Tall.

Columbia also sells the Tamiami II in Big and Tall versions on its site. If you need a tall length, Columbia is the one with published options for both of these shirts. Whichever you buy, the Skin Cancer Foundation's point applies: fabric stretched tight lets more UV through, so don't size down.

Care

Columbia's page gives the Terminal Tackle's care in full: machine wash, do not bleach, tumble dry, iron, do not dry clean. Huk's product page for the Pursuit hoodie listed materials and fit but no care instructions when we checked, so follow the sewn-in label.

Buy the Huk Pursuit Vented Hoodie if:

• you want a hood over the neck and ears;
• you fish hot days and want mesh vented sides.

Buy the Huk Icon X if: you want a plain crew rated UPF 50+.

Buy the Columbia PFG Terminal Tackle if:

• you need Big or Tall sizing;
• you want the maker's full care instructions and a published body length.

Buy the Columbia PFG Tamiami II if: you want a collar, chest pockets and a vented back, and UPF 40 suits you.

The Amazon listings give item weights of 0.3 lb for the Terminal Tackle, 0.4 lb for the Icon X and 0.49 lb for the Tamiami II, and none for the Pursuit hoodie. Neither brand publishes a fabric weight on these pages.

Do Huk and Columbia make women's versions?

Yes. Amazon lists women's Huk Pursuit long sleeves and a women's Columbia PFG Tamiami II; check each listing's UPF, since it can differ from the men's.

Is the Tamiami II discontinued?
