YakAttack and Scotty are the two names most kayak anglers hear first for rod holders, and they solve the same problem differently. YakAttack built its line around track: a track mount called LockNLoad and its own GearTrac. Scotty's holders sit on a post, and that post goes into a bolt-on deck mount or, through an adapter, into a track.
How we chose: we did not test these. We compared YakAttack's and Scotty's own product pages. YakAttack was sold on Amazon only by third-party retailers on September 29, 2026, so its side of the cards is a buyable stand-in from Sea-Lect Designs, sold by Amazon.com.

How YakAttack mounts a holder
YakAttack's Omega page describes the LockNLoad system in three modes. In locked mode the holder is fixed. Squeeze a lever and it enters adjustment mode, where it "can be rotated in any direction, but cannot be removed," so a strike mid-adjustment does not pull it off. Flip the lever out and the holder slides off the track mount.
The Omega itself uses a 360° rotating collar that captures the reel, which YakAttack says lets a spinning reel hang in its natural downward position. YakAttack calls it a universal holder for spinning, casting, larger conventional reels and fly rods. The Omega Pro adds an extension arm to lift the reel higher off the water.
YakAttack also makes the track. Its GT90 GearTrac is a medium-duty surface-mount track with stainless #8-32 screws, "compatible with 1/2" wide track hardware." The GTSL90 is a polymer version for light to medium duty, in 4 to 16 inch lengths.
How Scotty mounts a holder
Scotty's rod holders share one post, and the mount decides where the post goes. The 241 side/deck mount bolts to the top or side of a gunwale. For a track, Scotty sells the 438 Gear-Head adapter, which "quickly slides into place and locks down" a post-mount holder and which Scotty says is "designed to fit all kayak track systems."
Because every Scotty post-mount holder adjusts up and down and rotates 360°, per Scotty, the same holder can move between a bolt-on mount and a track. The 0282 kit comes with the adapter and Scotty's 440-4 low-profile track, 1.75 in wide and 7 in long with 4 in usable, made from high-strength composite.
The two holders differ in how they grip. The 0279 cradle in the 0282 kit has a cushioned baitcaster cradle, a front slot for a spinning reel and an open bottom that clears trigger grips; a soft strap latches over the rod. The 230 Powerlock is an open cradle with a front locking ring that Scotty says prevents rod loss when traveling.
Can you mix them?
Partly. Scotty says its Gear-Head is designed to fit all kayak track systems, though neither maker names the other's track. YakAttack's GTSL90 page notes one limit: the track is not intended for RAM Mounts' quick-release track base.
What does not cross over is the holder itself: a YakAttack Omega mounts on LockNLoad, and a Scotty holder on a Scotty post.
Which one suits you
Choose Scotty if your kayak has track from any maker, or none: one adapter or one bolt-on mount covers either, and every piece here is sold by Amazon.com. The 0282 kit is the one to start with; the Powerlock suits a heavier setup on a small boat.
Choose YakAttack if you fish fly or conventional reels from a kayak and want the Omega's rotating collar and lever lock. You will be buying from YakAttack's own site or a dealer. If you want a track holder from Amazon.com that also takes a fly rod, the Sea-Lect Triple Threat is the stand-in: it attaches to most makers' existing tracks, per its listing.

Yes. Scotty's site lists fly rod holders as their own category, separate from the Baitcaster/Spinning and Powerlock lines compared here.
Are YakAttack products sold on Amazon?
Yes, but when we checked on September 29, 2026, the YakAttack listings we found (LockNLoad bases, GearTrac, rod racks and the ParkNPole) were sold by third-party retailers, not Amazon.com or YakAttack, and we found no Omega listing, so none is linked. We found no CPSC recalls for either brand since 2023 in the CPSC recall database.
Can a Scotty holder bolt on without a track?
Yes. The 230 Powerlock comes with the 241 side/deck mount, which Scotty says mounts on the top or side of a gunwale. Scotty also sells a backing plate to add structural support under the 241.
