Huk vs Frogg Toggs Deck Boots (2026)

Huk and Frogg Toggs both sell a rubber-and-neoprene ankle deck boot, both claim a non-marking sole, and Amazon.com sells both. They differ on what is inside the boot, who they fit and whether there is a tall option. Everything below comes from the two makers' product pages and the Amazon listings.

Huk's figures come from its Rogue Wave page and the size lists on its women's and kids' pages. Frogg Toggs' come from its Hydrogrip page.

The sole: both claim non-marking, neither names a test

Huk says its Grip-X Slice pattern and micro-channels give "stable footing that grabs in all directions, no matter how slick the boat deck or dock may become," and calls the outer sole non-marking.

Frogg Toggs describes "an exclusive non-marking and hard-gripping Hydrogrip outsole" and a "slop-free athletic fit for more stability on uneven surfaces and rough seas."

Neither page names a slip-resistance test such as ASTM F2913, so on grip the two are tied on paper: a maker's description each, and a non-marking claim each.

The inside: mesh or neoprene

This is the real difference. Huk lines the Rogue Wave with breathable mesh, which it says helps "ensure the boots stay dry on the inside, keeping the wet on the outside," over an 8 mm molded EVA footbed.

Frogg Toggs lines the Hydrogrip with neoprene all the way through, "for comfort and warmth," and treats it against odor. Its listing calls the boot "Insulated" in the title.

So the choice follows the water temperature. A mesh liner suits a Gulf or South Florida summer; a neoprene lining suits spring and fall mornings farther north, or winter trips anywhere.

Fit and sizes

Huk covers more feet. The Rogue Wave comes in men's 7 to 14, a women's version in 5 to 11 and a kids' version in 1 to 7, and Huk says "for half-sizes, we recommend sizing up" on the men's page and "we suggest sizing up" on the kids' page.

Frogg Toggs sells the Hydrogrip in men's 7 to 13 only and publishes no half-size advice on the product page. It links a general size chart in its footer. If you wear a 14 or a women's size, the Hydrogrip is out.

Wear your fishing socks to try either on. A neoprene lining takes up more room inside the boot than mesh does.

If you need a tall boot

Huk does not sell a tall deck boot; the Rogue Wave is its only one. Frogg Toggs sells the Cascades Rubber Knee Boot in vulcanized rubber with a side gusset, an adjustable strap and buckle, a "self-cleaning rubber outsole," a steel shank and shovel guards.

Those are yard and field features, and Frogg Toggs makes no non-marking claim for it. It suits ramps, docks and wading to launch a skiff. Who each one suits

Buy the Huk Rogue Wave if:

• you fish warm water and want a breathable mesh liner;
• you need a women's or kids' size, or a men's 14;
• you want the maker's half-size rule before you order.

Buy the Frogg Toggs Hydrogrip if:

• your season includes cold mornings and you want a neoprene lining;
• you fit men's 7 to 13;
• you want an antimicrobial-treated lining.

It is not built for it. Frogg Toggs sells separate wading and flats boots, such as the Saltshaker Flats Boot, with a "water draining" mesh and rubber upper per its listing; the Hydrogrip is sealed, so water that comes over the top stays in.
