PowerPro's figures come from Shimano's PowerPro page and Super8Slick V2 page; the colors and tests are the options each page offered on September 29, 2026. Sufix's come from its 832 Advanced Superline page.
Fiber and weave
PowerPro begins, in Shimano's words, "with ultra-strong braided Spectra Fiber." The original is a four-carrier braid, and Shimano says that weave's "deliberate structural coarseness" lets the line "cut through aquatic growth rather than tangling in it." That is a pitch for fishing in grass and heavy cover.
Super8Slick V2 is PowerPro's eight-carrier line, which "combines a new 8-end, dense weave construction with the proven Enhanced Body Technology coating process." Shimano says eight strands give a rounder, smoother line for longer, quieter casts than a four-strand braid.
Sufix 832 has "8 fibers (7 HMPE fibers plus 1 GORE Performance Fiber) and 32 weaves (pics) per inch," per Sufix. It says the GORE fiber improves abrasion resistance, casting distance and accuracy, and reduces line vibration, while the HMPE fibers give strength, sensitivity, "hydrophobic water-repellent protection" and a small diameter.
Coating and treatment
The two makers treat the fiber for different reasons.
Shimano describes PowerPro's Enhanced Body Technology as "a proprietary manufacturing process that goes beyond a simple surface coating by permeating the braided Spectra fiber with a specialized resin." It says the resin bonds the fibers into a rounder line that doesn't flatten or dig into the spool under load, and makes it slicker through the guides.
Sufix's treatment, TGP, is sold on one thing: it "enhances color retention," per Sufix. The water-repelling claim on 832 is about the HMPE fiber itself, not a coating.
Neither maker publishes a test for its coating or for UV life. Berkley's braid guide says braid in general has "high resistance to UV damage with very little water absorption."
Diameter
This is the clearest difference on paper. Sufix lists a diameter for every test: 0.008 in at 10 lb, 0.009 in at 20 lb, 0.011 in at 30 lb, 0.014 in at 50 lb, up to 0.026 in at 130 lb.
Shimano's PowerPro pages list tests, lengths and colors, and call the line thin, but give no diameter figures. If you need to know how many yards of a given test fit your spool, Sufix gives you the number.
Seaguar, whose Smackdown is our stand-in, also publishes diameters on its Smackdown page: 0.010 in at 20 lb and 0.011 in at 30 lb, close to Sufix's figures.
Colors and test range
PowerPro's original comes in four colors, including Moss Green and Hi-Vis Yellow, and its tests run up to 250 lb, the heaviest here. Sufix 832 has five colors, including Coastal Camo and Ghost, and tops out at 130 lb.

Who each one suits
Choose PowerPro if:
- you fish grass or heavy cover and want a four-carrier braid Shimano pitches for cutting through it;
- you need very heavy tests, up to 250 lb;
- you are happy to buy it from a tackle shop or Shimano directly.
Choose Sufix 832 if:
- you want to check the diameter of each test before you spool;
- abrasion over rocks and structure is the worry, and the GORE fiber claim appeals;
- you want camo or ghost colors.
Choose Seaguar Smackdown (stand-in) if you wanted PowerPro's eight-strand Super8Slick V2 and want a published diameter and an Amazon.com seller.
